Mother's Voice
According to Tomatis listening skills are developed from the mother’s womb, during the fourth month of intrauterine life, an intimate relationship is built with the mother. The first sound that is heard in the symphony of body sounds is the mother’s voice sound which is perceived and naturally filtered to grow is to revolve around a core which is the mother, and from there change orbits. The teenager loves his mother until he rejects her, this is a necessary process in order to grow and not get caught in a level of pampering. As an adult they start to love another person. So people go from one stage to another, from one orbit to another, to find their own dimension. According to the concept of Tomatis, the umbilical cord is our life duct and it would be a fundamental error to try to cut it. Tomatis calls not to confuse the mother and father as the core of creativity, who have re-made creation, with the shell that surrounds them. They are people with flaws and problems resulting from a culture and a lot of other things, but as the essential nucleus are the creators of life.
When the ear is formed in the womb, we begin to structure our future communication, our future existence. The fetus hears the mother's visceral noise, which are naturally filtered through the amniotic fluid, so that only high frequency sounds are selected to pass. Among all these noises, the mother's voice is perceived and transmitted from the larynx, through the spine to the pelvis which acts like a resonance box, and where once filtered through the amniotic fluid, it comes with no semantics, but with all emotional expression, rhythm and cadence of mother’s voice. Tomatis says "The fetus does not care about language, in that mass of surrounding sounds, they only seek for love, affection and emotion ... the dialogue established between mother and son in this dimension is a prodigious intrauterine communication. The fetus not only receives sounds passively, but he also learns to apprehends, anagram data, record messages, analyze situations, while it converses with his mother. "

For Tomatis, the absorption of the mother’s voice during pregnancy is the most important phenomenon for the future organization, affective, emotional, and smooth development of all psychological activity later. The universe of sound that the fetus hears, rich in sharp frequencies, is full of feelings, sensations and emotions that will awaken in him the desire to communicate, which acts as a powerful internal motivation that drives him to interact with it around and get it. The desire to communicate, Tomatis says, is the engine to the development of our life and the construction of ourselves, and we express paradoxically a willingness to listen and the desire to enjoy the silence. If this desire is blocked, we may develop protective mechanisms to an environment that no longer feels safe.
During birth the fetus passes from a liquid audition to an air audition, but nature allows the newborn a progressive accommodation, retaining for a few days some of amniotic fluid in the ears. There begins the difficult task of learning to hear and listen, with the theme of the mother's voice, which recognizes the rhythm and cadence. From the womb and during early life, the child remains in the orbit closest to the mother, and relates to the world and with his father through it. From 3 to 4 years, the father's role becomes direct, and he is the one that makes the bridge to the world and so the child gets out of the orbit of the mother and establishes his communication with the environment.
The Tomatis method is a therapeutic revival of the whole learning process of listening and language. It allows replay of the intrauterine hearing from the sound and voice of the mother, trying to restore or heal all those stages that where lived wrong or were not experienced, looking for the growth maturity of the ear and nervous system, in order to reach a one’s personality equilibrium, to reconnect with the desire to live and communicate. The remnant effects of this therapy are posture changes of the voice and listening, and the nervous system starts building a routine of real dynamic thinking, creativity and integration.
